Food Manufacturing Takes
Another Trip To Thailand
Jesse Osborne, Editor
The May/June 2018 issue of Food Manufacturing featured a short write-up and photo essay of CPRAM’s production facility in Thailand’s Chonburi Province. Contributing Editor
Mike Hockett visited Thailand’s largest producer and distributor
of ready-to-eat food as part of a manufacturing-related media
event in March 2018.
More recently, the Thailand Board of Investment hosted a weeklong media tour focused
on the Southeast Asian country’s growing food manufacturing sector. Contributing Writer
Debra Schug attended the event, and her article highlighting the food processors included
in the tour serves as the cover story in this issue of FM.
Here’s a quick look at the companies highlighted in the story:
Thai Union: The tuna processor, which has been in business for more than 40 years
and owns the Chicken of the Sea and King Oscar brands, strives to be a leader in
Betagro Group: The producer of chicken, pork and egg products, which was established
in 1967, processes more than 30 million birds per week and 43 million eggs per day.
CP Thai Rice Company: The company’s Nakhon Luang Rice Plant — which opened in
2012 — is the Thailand’s largest, and has the capacity to produce more than 1 million
tons of rice each year.
Cargill Meats Thailand: The global food company is the largest cooked chicken exporter
in Thailand, and exports product to 28 countries.
Jelly Belly: The only Jelly Belly production facility located outside of the United States is
in the midst of its third expansion to accommodate chocolate production.
Otsuka Group: The company has pharmaceutical and nutraceutical divisions, the latter
of which is focused on developing products and creating new categories for medical food
We hope you enjoy this inside look at some of the top companies in Thailand’s food
manufacturing sector. As always, thank you for reading.

Co-located this year with the Healthcare Packaging EXPO, PACK EXPO International —
which is produced by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies
— is the place to be for all things packaging. In addition to highlighting the latest
packaging technologies, equipment and materials, the event also includes a number of
educational seminars and networking opportunities.
“As consumer demands for convenience, flexibility and personalization grow, the
packaging industry continues to design solutions to meet these expectations. PACK EXPO
International and Healthcare Packaging EXPO bring these innovations to life and provide
an opportunity to see new developments in action,” Laura Thompson, senior director of
expositions, PMMI said in a news release earlier this year. “If you want to keep up with
packaging technology and the latest trends in pharmaceutical manufacturing, you need to
attend these shows.”
The September/October issue of FM will feature a comprehensive PACK EXPO
