An Impressive Debut
for ProFood Tech
Jesse Osborne, Editor
Chicago’s McCormick Place was recently the place to be for those involved in the food and beverage processing industry.
The expansive convention center hosted the inaugural
ProFood Tech tradeshow — which was produced by PACK
EXPO, Anuga and the International Dairy Foods Association
— from April 4-6. According to a post-show news release,
the event brought together approximately 9,500 food and
“ProFood Tech reaffirmed our belief that North America
needed a comprehensive processing event,” Charles
D. Yuska, president and CEO, PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing
Technologies and the producer of the PACK EXPO portfolio of trade shows, said in
the post-show news release. “It was developed with massive support across market
segments giving us a true pulse of the industry. Together we developed a one-of-a-
kind show exclusively catering to the processing industry.”
I had the opportunity to spend an entire day at ProFood Tech and found it to be a
great addition to a food and beverage industry tradeshow circuit that also includes
PACK EXPO, PROCESS EXPO and the Food Safety Summit.
In addition to walking the 144,000-square-foot exhibit floor and seeing some of the
newest equipment and technologies on display, I also had the opportunity to check out
some of ProFood Tech’s educational offerings.
Among the Regulatory Matters seminars taking place on the day I was there were
“Five Tips for Communicating During a Food Safety Crisis” and “Deconstructing FSMA
Rules for a Small to Mid-Sized Company’s Benefit.” The event’s Innovation Stage was
also a popular place to be, with six presentations taking place the day I attended (and
a total of 15 presentations over the course of the show). Be sure to keep an eye out
for some editorial content surrounding those topics and presentations on the Food
Manufacturing website in the near future.
If you missed ProFood Tech this year, make sure to consider adding it to your event
calendar moving forward. The biennial show returns to Chicago in March of 2019.
New Features Debut
This issue marks the debut of a pair of features we hope will become a regular part
of FM’s editorial rotation.
In the inaugural installment of First Bite, Senior Reporter Meagan Parrish checks in
with Wisconsin-based flavors and seasonings company Wixon to get the lowdown on
the latest flavor trends taking hold in the food and beverage industry.
Meanwhile, the first edition of FM in Focus features Massimo Zanetti Beverage
USA. We briefly touched on Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA in the January/February
2017 issue as part of the cover story that highlighted Virginia’s flourishing food and
beverage manufacturing scene. Here, we take a closer look at one of North America’s
largest coffee manufacturers.
We hope you enjoy the new features. As always, thank you for reading.
