Greetings. By now you have certainly noticed a new face in this space beginning with this issue of Food Manufacturing. My name is Jesse Osborne, and I'm excited to assume the role of editor.
In my short time on the job, I've already had the opportunity to correspond with
many people involved in the industry. And I'm looking forward to interacting with
many more of you in the coming days, weeks and months — whether it be via
email, through a phone conversation or even in person.
I feel fortunate to be joining a talented and hard-working editorial staff that also
includes Editorial Director Jeff Reinke and Associate Editor Kari Imberg.
My goals are to carry on the high standards our
print and digital platforms are known for, while continuing to provide our readers with the best content
and the most up-to-date happenings in the industry.

As for the print edition of Food Manufacturing, I'm excited about the editorial content
we have lined up for this issue.
My predecessor, Holly Henschen, authored this month's cover story, and it's an interesting one that is focused on Denver-based Dixie Elixirs, a company that produces THC-infused edibles with a focus on transparency, technology and consumer education.
"We intend this facility to be used to demystify the industry,” says Joe Hodas, chief
marketing officer at Dixie Elixirs. “This is an opportunity for regulators, legislators and
entrepreneurs to understand how best to approach the marijuana industry.”
In addition to our cover story, we also have exclusive features on the topics of energy
efficiency and water reuse in food and beverage facilities. Our monthly Question-and-
Answer series focuses on distribution, with a pair of experts from Grainger weighing in
on key topics and issues in that area. We also have four industry experts checking in with
their thoughts on the latest trends and topics in sanitation in our monthly Brainstorm.
Closing out the issue are two more feature articles — one on the risk and reward of
purchasing used equipment, and an industry insider look at the bakery sector from Ken
Hagedorn, Vice President of Sales for Naegele Inc., and a member of the Food Processing
Suppliers Association Board of Directors.
